This recipe couldn’t get much easier. It holds well and is great warmed up later in the week. For that reason, I will make this on a Sunday afternoon to have on an evening during the week when I know we have a lot of running around to do. The BBQ sauce is a little tangy and sweet from the Italian dressing and brown sugar. I know that the ingredients may seem like a weird combo, but trust me, the flavor is great! Serve it on it’s on or on a bun with some cheese on top for an amazing sandwich. This is also great for parties or pot luck lunches/dinners because it’s easy to make a lot at once. This is definitely a crowd pleaser recipe!
-Trim chicken breast of any fat and place in the crockpot. I use the crockpot liners to make clean-up easier. (Such a time saver!!)
-Mix bbq sauce, Italian dressing and brown sugar together and pour over the chicken.
-Set the crockpot on high for 3 hours. Once the 3 hours is up, the chicken will shred easily with a fork. Allow the chicken to sit in the extra sauce after it is shredded for about 30 min.
-Serve on its own or on a bun as a sandwich. We like to top ours with shredded cheddar/pepperjack cheese mix.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 lbs chicken breast
- 2c BBQ sauce (I use Sweet Baby Rays brand, but you can use whatever you like)
- 1/2 c Italian dressing
- 1/4 c brown sugar
Instructions
- Trim any excess fat off of the chicken and place in a crockpot. I put a crockpot liner in before adding any food for easy clean-up. (This is optional, but highly recommended!)
- Mix the bbq sauce, Italian dressing and brown sugar together and pour over top of the chicken.
- Set the crockpot on high for 3 hours. At the end of 3 hours, the chicken should shred easily using a fork. Once the chicken is shredded, allow to sit in the sauce for at least 30 mins.
- Serve on its on or on a bun as a sandwich. Top with your favorite cheese if you'd like 🙂
